Our story is just beginning!
Ignacio Torras, acting President and CEO, founded Tricon in 1996. Ignacio had clear objectives to build a platform with people who shared his passion for excellence in the trading of commodities, building a culture where those people would be recognized for challenging the status quo and seeking leadership by focusing on the main pillars of the company; reliability and competitiveness.
Tricon now operates a global footprint of more than 20 offices with over 400 employees providing full commodity logistics, risk management, finance, and market intelligence services for our commercial partners. Our business is organized into four distinct Business Units and over 20 product lines. Discover how we grew from a 4 person trading shop to the organization as it is known today.

1996
Tricon founded
In 1996, Ignacio Torras, active President and CEO, founded Tricon Energy in Houston, TX, USA. The Company started with 4 employees, trading Liquid Caustic Soda and Acetone.

1999
First Overseas Office Opened
The first overseas office opened in Korea in 1999 following the Asia financial crisis. Management recognized the need to be global in order to have a better understanding of the market.

2002
Surpassed 1MM MT
In 2002, Tricon were proud to move more than one million metric tons of commodity.

2004
Addition of Two Offices
Two new offices opened in Shanghai, China and Istanbul, Turkey, expanding Tricon’s global reach.

2006
10th year anniversary. Tricon plastic established
In 2006, Tricon celebrated 10 years’ of business along with forming Tricon Plastic. 2006 also marked the first year Tricon surpassed $1 billion in sales.

2008
Tricon Dry Chemicals established
Tricon Dry Chemicals was established in 2008 to further grow the plastics’ business created two years prior.

2012
Tricon Academia Formed
In 2012, Tricon Academia was created, a training program focused on career development aimed at maximizing the potential of our employees.

2014
Tricon Cares Formed; Surpassed 5MM MT
At Tricon, we feel passionate about making a positive impact in the world. As such, in 2014 we created Tricon Cares, an initiative aimed at benefiting society through volunteering, charitable fund raising and donations, and beyond. In 2014, Tricon also moved more than 5 million metric tons.

2015
Liquid Fuels and Dry Bulk Divisions Created
The Fuels business unit was started in 2015. With this addition came exciting opportunities for growth and expansion into new markets.

2016
20th Year Anniversary; Lighthouse Chartering Founded
In 2016, Tricon celebrated 20 years’ of business and founded Lighthouse Chartering, a chartering company focused on optimizing freight and logistics.

2017
Raw Materials & Fertilizers Division Created; Surpassed 400 Employees
The most recent addition to the Tricon product lines was the Raw Materials & Fertilizers business unit. Tricon also surpassed 400 employees worldwide.

IMPARO Founded
Tricon's maritime services group, IMPARO, was founded in 2018

We are proud to announce our association with the Alliance To End Plastic Waste (the Alliance)
By joining the Alliance, Tricon Energy will invest funding, expertise and resources to enable our shared vision to eliminate plastic waste from the environment, collaborating with other members to support projects that will contribute to the innovative and impactful solutions needed to drive and deliver transformational change.
